Vladimir Pastukhov is a political scientist and legal expert specialising in Russia's political system and constitutional issues. He is well known for his publications and commentary on political change in Russia. His work focuses on Russian political culture and the historical and social background of Russian power. Since 2015, he has been an Honorary Senior Research Associate at University College London’s School of Slavonic and East European Studies (UCL SSEES).

Throughout his career, he has collaborated with various Russian, Ukrainian, and British research institutions, contributing to discussions on modern Russian politics, constitutional law, and the role of the judiciary in political systems.

From 2009 to 2015, he was a visiting fellow at St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford. 

Since 1999, he has been a member of the Moscow Bar Association and has represented clients in several notable cases in Russian and international courts. He has been a member of the editorial boards of several Russian and international academic journals and has served as an advisor to various state bodies, including the Russian parliament and the Constitutional Court.

In 1999, he was appointed research director of the Institute of Law and Public Policy in Moscow, a position he held until 2008. From 1995 to 1999, he served as a senior researcher at the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Comparative Political Studies. 

He is the author of several books and over 200 scholarly articles on constitutional law and political science. Throughout his career, he has been active in both academic and public discourse on the evolving political landscape of Russia and the broader post-Soviet region.
