Sergei Medvedev a Professor at Charles University in Prague. He specialises in political history, international affairs, and Russian studies. In the past 30 years, he has held research positions and professorships in the EU, and in 2004–2020 he was a Professor and Associate Dean at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow.

He has published ten books, over 50 academic articles and hundreds of essays on Russia, Europe and the international order. His recent books include The Return of the Russian Leviathan (Cambridge, Polity Press, 2020), A War Made in Russia (Polity Press, 2023) and Biopower in Putin’s Russia: From Taking Care to Taking Lives (with Andrey Makarychev, CEU Press, 2024).
