Location: Remote
Application Deadline: On a rolling basis

Overview

The NEST Centre invites innovative projects and research initiatives that explore political, social, and economic transformation in Russia and its global impact.
We provide institutional support, help secure funding, and offer opportunities for joint publications and outreach.

Requirements

Please submit a concise project description in either Russian or English via [email protected]: 1–2 pages outlining the concept, research question, anticipated outcomes, and budget.

We are seeking candidates with the following research interests

  • Russia in the global system. Russia’s adaptation to the structures of international politics, from global governance institutions to regional power configurations.
  • Federalism. Analysis of the present configuration of Russia’s federal system: the position and role of regional elites, the structure of regional economies, and the dynamic of centre–periphery relations.
  • National identity and statehood. Conceptual and ideological foundations of the Russian state: the evolving understanding of nationhood, the relationship between nationalism and imperial legacies, and the role of propaganda, military doctrine, and ‘soft power’ narratives in shaping political identity.
  • Drivers of growth. Russia’s economic and technological capacities amid systemic crisis, with a focus on the country’s productive forces, patterns of distribution of industry and population, and the operation of its transport system and infrastructure.

Benefits

  • Advisory support in developing project design and research agenda.
  • Access to funding opportunities.
  • Publication and outreach via the NEST Centre website.
  • Integration into our expert community, including joint events and briefing.
