Sergey Mastitsky is a data scientist specialising in media analytics and political analysis, whose career has spanned academic research and industry. At NEST Centre, he leads data science and engineering work, developing large-scale machine learning applications for media monitoring, network analysis, and predictive modelling.
His extensive international experience includes roles at large corporations such as Aviva (UK) and BASF (Germany), working on recommender systems, marketing optimisation, and risk modelling. Prior to industry, he built an academic career, authoring numerous peer-reviewed papers.
Sergey holds a PhD in ecology from Belarusian State University. His publications include several books on data science in Russian, among them ‘Statistical Analysis and Visualisation of Data Using R’ and ‘Times Series Analysis Using R’. He is also the official Russian translator of the citation classic ‘An Introduction to Statistical Learning with Applications in R’.
