Amid dramatic global upheaval, Russia is experiencing rapid change. The country’s current leadership is implementing an ambitious strategy to destabilise the existing world order aimed at reducing the ability of Western democracies to influence authoritarian regimes. Deepening confrontation with the West has mired the Kremlin in a war with Ukraine that it cannot win on its terms. The resulting militarisation of the economy together with the reorientation of foreign policy, renewal of the bureaucracy and increased domestic repression will have long-term consequences for Russia’s development and its place in the world.
Based in London and Washington, D.C., NEST Centre brings together the best expertise on Russia and the surrounding region. Its mission is to identify the forces shaping Russia’s long-term future, analyse their impact and develop strategies to bring about peaceful and positive development of the country.
